Obituary

Ronald C. Tyrrell, 72, of Sumner, died Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Unity Point/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner with Rev. Tracy Hinkel officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Sumner. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Saturday.

Ronald Charles, son of Charles and Lilly (Schulze) Tyrrell was born January 7, 1949, in Fort Dodge. He was baptized and confirmed at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Ron graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1967, and continued his education at Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, North Dakota. He married Janet Curl on June 6, 1970. To this union two sons were born, Jason and Andrew. The couple would later divorce. Ron worked as a mechanic in the Cedar Falls area, Warning Lites of Iowa from 1979-1992, and KWS Signs as an estimator from 1993-2000. On December 31, 1994, he was united in marriage with Karen Korman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. The couple moved to Sumner in 1999. Ron worked in maintenance at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner from 2001 until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the Waterloo Kennel Club and Hiawatha Cocker Spaniel Club. Ron enjoyed working on old cars and dog shows.

Ron is survived by his wife, Karen of Sumner; two sons, Jason Tyrrell of Tripoli and Andrew Tyrrell of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Alexandrea, Westley, Autumn, Evan, and Zoey-Jane; three great-grandchildren, Miya, Jace, and Lilian; siblings, Dennis (Pat) Tyrrell of Okoboji, Kay Tyrrell of Schaller, and Connie (Randy Leiss) Tyrrell of Fort Dodge, brothers-in-law, Neil Fladeland of Noblesville, Indiana and Kevin Korman of Sumner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Deloris Sanders and Karen Fladeland.
