Daniel Lee Sweeney, 60, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation is Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Daniel is survived by his wife Lynn Ellen; his children, Andrew Francis (Mathilde Baldwin) Sweeney, Fort Dodge; Christopher Lee Sweeney, Miami, FL; Kari Ellen Sweeney (Lyle A.) Young, Fort Dodge; two grandchildren, Cassandra Rose Sweeney and Grace Ellen Sweeney; his siblings, Michael John (Joyce) Sweeney, Jonesborough, TN; Patricia (Frank) Beminio, Belmond, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Daniel Lee Sweeney, the son of Francis Marion and Geneva (Westwick) Sweeney, was born March 6, 1948, in Fort Dodge. Daniel attended Coleman School, South Junior High and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1967. Daniel was employed with Target, Farner Bocken and worked as an electrician's assistant. He attended Iowa Central Community College. On May 6, 1973, Daniel was united in marriage to Lynn Ellen Ryerson. Daniel began his law enforcement career with the Fort Dodge Police Department in 1973. While serving with the police department, Daniel was active in Crime Stoppers, Neighborhood Watch, the Coalition of Victims, DARE and he worked to establish the explorers program. He also attended numerous specialized training schools for the police department.

Daniel was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was a long- time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a member of the choir, was active on the Board of Lay Ministries and assisted with the church youth group. He was also a member of the Optimist Club.

Daniel enjoyed traveling, camping, barbeques, being outdoors, playing games and spending time with his family.
